Poke Connections is a free, fan-made browser puzzle: 16 Pokemon names, four hidden groups, four lives. Expert generates practice boards in this browser. It is not a second homepage daily, and it is not Pokennection's expert label or a YouTube series that uses the same word.

The daily generator may use a primary type as the yellow group: Fire-type, Water-type, and the rest. Expert removes that option. Its yellow band is body colour or a shared first letter. Green is a second type or a generation. Blue is a first letter or an evolution stage. Purple stays narrow: legendary, mythical, baby, or one evolution line. Two letter groups can appear on the same board if the letters differ.

Why that is harder

A primary type is the category most players name first. Taking it away means the first obvious sort is often wrong. A black-bodied group and a names-starting-with-S group can both look random until you count. I still require one intended solution: if a second set of four exact groups from the supported category properties also covers the 16 names, that board is thrown out and the seed moves on.

Red herrings stay. A name can sit next to three teammates from a story that is one tile short. The board still says one away. Expert does not add a fifth life, a timer, or a score multiplier. The difficulty is the category pool, not a costume on the daily.

How Expert practice works

Each next-board action generates a new expert board from its own seed. The streak on this device ends when you lose one, same as Unlimited, and the two streaks are stored apart. Clearing expert does not mark today's daily solved. I am not publishing per-day expert answers, because this mode has no UTC puzzle number.
