Create a Pokemon Connections Puzzle

Poke Connections is a free, fan-made browser puzzle: 16 Pokemon names, four hidden groups, four lives. It is not affiliated with NYT Connections, Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, or Pokennection. This maker builds a puzzle from the same 1,025-name extract as the daily. No account. A share link stores the puzzle in the address hash, which is not a separate indexed page.

Public builders do this differently. poconnections.com describes a builder across 1,025 species that checks for one valid answer and asks for an account before publishing (1 source: its creator page). PokemonConnections.com describes built-in categories and a limit of five published puzzles a day, or two a day during an account’s first 24 hours (1 source: its creator page). This maker combines name suggestions with overlap warnings and a complete-partition check within the supported property set.

The category guide explains each supported property and its traps.

How to use it

  1. Choose a property for each of the four groups.
  2. Type four names. The box suggests names from the extract.
  3. Run the overlap check. Fix any name that satisfies two groups.
  4. Preview the playable board, then copy its link to share it.

The checker validates sixteen distinct names, shared group properties, overlaps, and a single complete four-group partition among the supported properties. It does not evaluate every possible Pokemon fact or wordplay category. Preview opens a playable board, and the share-link fragment opens that same board for another visitor. Shared boards are not added to the archive.

A worked trap: four unevolved Generation I names can also be four names that start with the same letter, or four of one type. If Bulbasaur fits both "Grass-type" and "Generation I", the check says so. Drop Bulbasaur from one group or change the property until each name has a single home.

    Questions

    Do I need an account?

No. The puzzle is stored in a link fragment, and opening it plays that board.

    Will my puzzle be indexed?

No separate page is created. The create page itself is the only URL.

Can I edit a shared puzzle later?

Open the link, change the names, and copy a new link. The old hash does not update.

    How many can I make?

There is no counter. Please do not hammer the page with a script.
